Luxury imports

Luxury import pots became increasingly frequent in Picene tombs from the beginning of the 5th century BC; typically Picene objects became less frequent. A sort of globalisation of customs and fashions was happening!
In this period, Greek pots were the most desirable status symbols.  These objects were ment for the Estruscan market, but many sophisticated “gifts” were kept by Picene aristocrats that controlled the passes over the Apennines.  Ascoli territory seemed to be rather excluded from this trade route and its wealth because of Ascoli peripheral location.
Imported bronze pieces of metalwork were very successful instead; they were produced by Greek and Estruscan workers.  In Picenum, replicas of these imported luxury objects were commissioned, and they became exchange items and gifts among princes, even over a long distance.
